Disclaimer: bulbs need energy for the next season and they get that by the leaves recharging the bulb. When cut flower farmers, like myself, cut the flower we do not reuse the bulb. Sometimes it can take 1-2 seasons for your spent bulbs to produce a flower again if the leaves have been cut off before charging the bulb again. There can also be some bulbs that may never produce a flower again. I haven't tested this out personally, but this is what experts say and I also have had tulips emerge from my compost pile unexpectedly. Bulb digging day is a fun activity to do with family, friends or yourself just to see "what if" or do I have the patience to wait 2 years for the flower to emerge again. Happy digging!
